Mr. Obama: We were, and are, a nation under God

Today is the 150th anniversary of the delivery of the Gettysburg Address. Mr. Obama snubbed the celebration and, as he has done previously when reciting the Declaration of Independence, he omitted the reference to God when he recited the Gettysburg Address for filmmaker Ken Burns’ recent piece on the topic.

This is no small matter.  Our rights come from God Almighty:  it is not the President’s choice, the Congress’ choice, the UN’s choice or any person’s choice; it is God’s choice.  God gives us life and Liberty.  As the Declaration famously observes: governments were instituted to secure our rights, they do not create them. Mr. Obama has repeatedly and conspicuously (if implicitly) rejected the entire foundation upon which this nation rests.

In order to function, society has to trust people it can’t trust; among them, the military, judges, juries, law enforcement and presidents. Yes, we have a system of checks…
